Test and Evaluation Engineer

Location: Huntsville, AL

(SETA Engineering and Test & Evaluation Support for Cruise Missile Defense Systems Program Office)


Canvas is seeking a Test and Evaluation Engineer to support the Cruise Missile Defense Systems Program Office which is the centralized manager for the Army's short/medium range air defense systems. CMDS is responsible for the full life-cycle management of its assigned programs. The CMDS Project Office is equipping the current and future force with an Integrated Air and Missile Defense capability. CMDS programs include Improved Sentinel Radar, STINGER Based Systems, and Integrated Fire Protection Capability Increment 2Intercept (IFPC Inc 2-I).

The CMDS program office requires mid-career level test and evaluation and engineering support with Air and Missile Defense (AMD) test range experience. Individual must be able to demonstrate experience planning, executing, and assessing AMD, or highly relatable systems, test events.  Candidates should have demonstrated experience working the Targets Management Office (TMO) to provide targets for system test.  Work requires ability to work independently, given an objective, and not require oversight and assistance from the customer.

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Provide review and recommendations on test plans and documentation
  • Determining target needs and instrumentation types to meet radar system requirements and provide interface between target provider and the test office.
  • Interfacing with IPT leads to determine the diverse target capabilities and requirements to optimize radar system performance during test events.
  • Manage necessary working groups and periodic reviews to support test programs/plans.
  • Schedule range time for testing and coordinate real-time with test range when requirements/schedule change followed by updates to range documentation.
  • Lead diverse team providing direction and guidance IAW Test Plans.
  • Provide real time and post mission test truth data of Time, Space, and Position Information (TSPI) of targets (i.e., Lear jets, un-manned aerial vehicle, F-16, F-15, T-34, drones, TOW targets (cruise missile like), helo, boats and surface moving, etc) to analyst for models and sims, and post mission radar analysis.
  • Supporting Launch Demos, and test events, to include life fire demonstrations at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR)
  • Lead all range coordination and range operations including overseeing multiple range documents/requirements.
  • Identify test requirements for programs in support of Milestone documentation
  • Developing Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPs).
  • Developed methods to track test metrics and measures for T&E Directorate.

Other Duties include supporting in the role of deputy as an assistant to the CMDS Test & Reliability Director.

  • Review and manage all material forwarded to the director of test.
  • Facilitate and direct weekly staff meetings.
  • Managing all action items within the directorate.
  • Assist the director of test with email organization and calendar/schedule management.


BS degree in Engineering or science related degree and 10 years of experience in functional responsibility for this position.  

Capability to develop and present reports and presentations to senior management-level personnel.

The candidate must be able to work within a collaborative environment composed of Government, Prime Contractor, Sub-Contractor and Supporting Contractor personnel in a badge-less contractor environment.

Travel is required for this position. While a defined travel battle rhythm does not exist, travel can be extended and heavy during test events at remote ranges and test locations.
